A boy who was bitten in the head by a dog several weeks ago and is suspected of having rabies, rests on an empty bed frame on the ground while being monitored by MSF in an abandoned building in Leer. If he does have rabies, there is little the medical staff can do to save the boy. All humanitarian actors, including MSF evacuated Leer amid heavy fighting in May 2015 as thousands of civilians were forced to flee into the bush, swamps or into the UN Protection of Civilian site in Bentiu. However, MSF was able to resume limited operations from Leer in July 2015, conducting mobile clinics and therapeutic feeding programs until MSF’s compound was once again looted in October. MSF has been looted three times in Leer since conflict erupted.
